The future of amateur radio lies in the hands of the youth. With this philosophy in mind, the annual Youngsters on the Air (YOTA) event provides young operators with the opportunity to develop their skills and connect with the global amateur radio community. In 2023, we also participated in this event under the callsign TC7YOTA. Our team was a memorable group, showcasing the energy and talents of young amateur radio operators:
- TA7YLY Merzuke, TA7EK Emre, TB2AGW Abdulkadir, TA7DAL Burhan, TA7MNA Mustafa, TA7WYZ Yalçın, TA7AZC Gölkem

Youth and Amateur Radio: A Shared Mission
Amateur radio, unfortunately, has somewhat faded into the background with the rapid development of technology. However, this event showed us once again how possible it is to increase young people’s interest in this field. Each young participant brought a fresh breath and new perspective to the amateur radio world.
Throughout the YOTA event, we not only enhanced our technical knowledge but also created fun memories. We worked in FT8, CW, SSB, and VHF/UHF modes, and even had the excitement of communicating with the world using the QO-100 satellite. The opportunity to work across different modes and bands strengthened not only our technical skills but also our teamwork.

A Hope for the Future
This event once again highlighted the importance of young people in the amateur radio community. In terms of communication, technical knowledge, and cultural exchange, the youth carry great hope for the sustainability of the amateur radio hobby. However, to raise awareness in this field and attract more young people, it is a shared responsibility for all of us.
Stronger Together
The friendships and lessons we gained during YOTA demonstrated that amateur radio is not just a hobby, but a way of life. The energy of young people in this field was proof that the amateur radio hobby will never fade away.
Certificate for Each QSO
During the YOTA event, we awarded special certificates to each participant who completed a successful QSO (communication). These certificates were not just mementos, but also symbols of the experiences and achievements the young operators gained in the world of amateur radio. Each QSO was a new learning opportunity, and these certificates helped participants appreciate the process. Celebrating their successes motivated the young operators even more and strengthened their connection to the amateur radio community.

Finally, I would like to conclude with a quote from Mustafa Kemal ATATÜRK, expressing his faith in the youth: “You, the rising new generation, the future is yours“
